Heart Foundation Walking is powered by incredible volunteer walk organisers who dedicate their time to lead and support walking groups across the country.
The annual Golden Shoe Awards provide participants the opportunity to recognise their outstanding efforts and the impact they’ve made in their community.
The team at Heart Foundation Walking are exited to award the following walk organisers who truly go above and beyond.
Rising Star Award

Her efforts have built a supportive community that helps curb loneliness and creates lasting friendships, making her a true rising star.
Nomination quote
"Our vibrant organiser Tracey French started the group March this year as when walking around the centre she felt that maybe others would join her to walk, talk and enjoy a coffee. Today she has approx 80 group members joining her. Tracey is so welcoming and a fantastic organiser"

Above and Beyond
For going the extra mile (literally or figuratively) to help others.
Ian Watson: Mighty West Walkers, VIC
Ian Watson turned a personal health challenge into a mission to connect and uplift others by founding the Mighty West Heart Foundation Walking Group in 2019. From just three walkers, Ian has grown the group into a vibrant community that meets regularly for walks, coffee, and friendship. His tireless efforts - organising social events, special walks, and outreach programs - have created a space where people feel supported, valued, and connected. Ian’s passion and care have transformed lives and built a family-like community that truly embodies Heart Foundation Walking's spirit.
Nomination quote
"Ian envisaged a community walking group, whose members were a cross section of Melbourne's western suburbs, differing in backgrounds and abilities. A group that would walk together, fellowship together and over time become as a family, sharing their life journeys.
In the past six years, I have seen friendships forged, lives transformed and confidence restored. The Mighty West walking group fulfils a need in the lives of all its members. Each member of the group uniquely contributes to the wellbeing of the group. Members testify to feeling supported, being connected to each other and belonging within a caring community which they may not have found otherwise.
None of this could have happened without Ian's shepherding of the group, knowing each member by name, keeping his flock safe, making sure no one was left behind and expanding their horizons."
