The Heart Foundation wants to encourage more people to walk more often, as it’s one of the simplest yet best things we can do for a healthy mind, body and heart.
We do this by building and supporting a community of walkers all over Australia. More than 350,000 participants across the country have so far stepped up with Heart Foundation Walking.
Free and easy to join, Heart Foundation Walking offers support and motivation to those wanting to be more physically active or get more out of walking.
How did we get here?
Established in 1995, Heart Foundation Walking has helped people all over Australia start walking and stay walking. We started life in Queensland as the Just Walk It program and our ‘red army’ of walkers keep on trooping to this day.
In 2017 we delivered the Prime Minister’s One million steps and ran a number of step challenges to encourage people to step it up.
In 2021 we launched our Personal Walking Plans, a six-week exercise program giving participants the tools to achieve the Australian physical activity guidelines by the end of the six-week plan.
Since then, we have continued to offer all Australians the chance to get walking with the support of the Heart Foundation through these two main programs – Personal Walking Plans and Heart Foundation Walking Groups.
Funding partners
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia's largest free walking network, made possible with thanks to the vital support of our funding partners. Our program partners play an important role in giving Australian's the opportunity to make walking a part of their lives.
